Letters to the Faithful.

The God Series - Benevolence
Feb 05, 2026.

The Father’s benevolence is a deeper response to our needs and wants, while His flavor is part of His Covenant with us. But while flavor may depend on obedience, benevolence only requires our emotional attachment to Him as our Father through intimacy, deep emotional expressions, and absolute surrender to His will. It's not about how much Biblical Wisdom, Knowledge, or Understanding. It's about a deep desire to be seated at His feet. We can learn this from the similar connection shown by dogs. When dogs have this deep affiliation with their owner, they express this in several ways, but the most notable is sitting near while having a focused stare at the owner. It's when all fear, frustrations, and fragility are abandoned, and the only thing left is complete trust, admiration, and comfort. These abate every circumstance. It's called implicit Faith!

A prominent example of God’s benevolence is with John, the Apostle. While most Apostles were concerned with anxiety about Jesus’ final trial and death, John remained by His side, demonstrating fealty not to Jesus’ purpose but His person, resulting in becoming known as the beloved one. Was it a coincidence that John seemed to fare better with a natural death than the other Apostles, even after being boiled in oil? Or was it the Father’s benevolence! John is known for his passion for man’s Salvation, part of Jesus’ inner circle, making him very close to the Father. He also sat next to Jesus at the Last Supper, and was the only Apostle at the Crucifixion, at the feet of Jesus, and was charged with caring for Mary, Jesus’ mother. He also produced five of the most critical books emphasizing Godly Love, Truth, and Righteousness. He was also the most comprehensive New and Post Testament prophet, authoring the Book of Revelation.

All Christians should have and need to know the Father’s benevolence throughout their lifetime. It can be personal, or it can be with those most cherished among them. Its most effective when we least expect it or have a deep desire for His presence. Examples of His benevolence range from His unexpected touch during times when our concerns weigh us down, such as a cool breeze that only we experience. It can also manifest physically, like unexpected kind, encouraging, or uplifting words from those we know or don't know, even from our enemies. It is revealed to us mentally or spiritually and is not common, but periodically. And just like Salvation, we don't earn His benevolence. But by looking to Him as the Father through the eyes of Jesus, He is Faithful to remind us of His benevolence.

The Father’s benevolence is not under the Law, nor is it applied because of good behavior. His benevolence is His desire to demonstrate His interest in our lives. It depends on us! God blesses for His purpose while the Father reveals His deep kindness and benevolence for our often deep, hidden desires. There has to be a quid pro quo; not of trade but of heart. It's not a gift. It's an action for relatability, empathy, and solidarity. It’s His emotional way to lower His standard for that moment to encourage us to seek Him more. God is not emotional by our definition, but the Father demonstrates feelings that we can identify. This is not a conflict but a clear mindset to keep His order of things. As fathers, we desire to see our children in constant joy, but we know that without the household order, all will become chaotic, destroying the very thing we are trying to achieve. The well-being of our children when they face the world!

It's similar when one runs a business, and the employees have no real choice but to respect the owner’s will, but regardless of compliance, there are murmurs and seeds of revolution among them. And just like owners without heirs, God sought the same by seeking a man to be His son and He their Father for His benevolence and Kingdom to be shared with. He wants a legacy! A trait that all men carry with them. God wants those who will echo His Glory for all eternity. Not just in physical accomplishments but on an intimate level, and that's where His benevolence is most revealed. God wants to say of all, a man after My own Heart!

God wants to demonstrate His benevolence to us because we have been given a special, unique, and special disposition with Him. No other creation has this benefit, and if it were not for the fall, everyone born of His Spirit would receive His benevolence in innumerable forms. But by dissension, disobedience, and discontentment, this deep form of kindness, generosity, and personal interest has been reduced to mercy and compassion. These were more reserved for slaves, servants, and workers. Benevolence is reserved for heirs!

The Father’s Love for us is weighted with His commitment to His Throne, Kingdom, and Law. Do we allow our children to continue down a destructive, dark, and debasing path, or do we step in with the Love required to right their course towards Righteousness, richness, and respect? Often this requires tough, rather than soft Love. His benevolence is His soft Love, but requires merit from us, and if it were not for His Grace, many, if not all of us, would only experience His wrath. This is the lesson from Lucifer and those rebellious angels. His benevolence is not a right like His flavor, and has differences in its applications.

This is about His long-suffering, which goes to His very Heart; not as our God but as our Father! It is His core in all He does. Why did the Father make the decision to create us, knowing this would result in jealousy, disdain, and gossip, eventually leading to the war of flesh and Spirit? The word is benevolence. And to be clear, this is not His objective, equal, and just rule for both the good and evil. God is sovereign, and has to keep His position of Kingship with the acknowledgment that His Angels will bow down to His every decree and command. This is also what He expects from us!
